The bat-eared fox is small, weighing about nine pounds fully grown and stands a foot tall. It has disproportionately large ears which are used to locate the movements of its prey above and below ground. Its prey includes beetle larvae, [P 017 / dung beetles], lizards, small mammals and scorpions. It lives in dens on the short grass plains which usually have several yards of tunnels. The bat-eared fox hunts day or night and its home range is usually less than one square mile.
